
Women’s Tennis Tabs Three on CSC Academic All-District Team
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Three student-athletes from the South Carolina women’s tennis team were named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. Sarah Hamner, Olympe Lancelot and Kaitlyn Carnicella were all honored, announced by the CSC on Tuesday.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Hamner is a highly decorated Gamecock and has earned several accolades throughout her four years at South Carolina some of which include 4x All-SEC First Team, 2022 Freshman of the Year, SEC All-Freshman Team, 2022 ITA Carolina Region Rookie of the Year, 2023 ITA Carolina Region Singles Champion, 2024 ITA East Sectional Singles Champion, 2021 ITA All-American Singles Champion, 1x ITA All-American in singles, 1x ITA All-American in doubles, 3x SEC Academic Honor Roll, 3x ITA Scholar Athlete, 4x NCAA singles qualifier and 2x NCAA doubles qualifier. This award marks her third CSC all-district honor.
This season, Hamner surpassed 100 singles wins after earning a 19-10 overall record, going 10-7 against ranked opponents from the No. 1 position. In doubles alongside Carnicella, she held a 12-8 record from the top of the lineup, taking down eight ranked opponents. Throughout the entire season she upheld a top-30 ITA ranking in singles and doubles, reaching a high of No. 13 in singles and No. 10 in doubles. Her season highlights included taking down the No. 1 singles player from Georgia and qualifying for her fourth consecutive NCAA individual championship in singles after winning the ITA East Sectionals. Hamner maintained a 3.865 GPA as a marketing major.
Lancelot is a marketing major with a 3.912 GPA. The senior held a 8-14 record this season in singles, primarily playing in the No. 3 and 4 positions. She was ranked three times in doubles, earning a season high spot of No. 52 alongside Carnicella. This marks Lancelot’s second time being named to the CSC Academic-All District Team. The senior is also a 3x ITA Scholar Athlete and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. At her previous school, she was named to the All-ACC Academic Team and ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Carnicella held a 3.800 GPA while majoring in sport & entertainment management. The sophomore earned an 18-11 singles record this season, the second most amount of wins on the team. She was 8-6 from the No. 2 position and held a spot in the ITA rankings in singles and doubles throughout the whole season, reaching a high of No. 47 in singles and No. 10 in doubles alongside Hamner. Additionally, Carnicella was named to the All-SEC Second Team and SEC Honor roll. During the fall season she qualified for the NCAA Individual Championship in singles after making it to the semifinals of the ITA East Sectional Championship.
