South Carolina Athletics

Senior All-American Nathan Franks advanced to the medal round on Monday as one of the top-nine individuals on a non-advancing team

CARLSBAD, Calif. – No. 20 South Carolina finished T-19th at the NCAA Championship on Sunday at Omni La Costa. The Gamecocks shot 890 (+26), missing the top-15 cut by nine shots.

Senior All-American Nathan Franks will play 18 more holes tomorrow in the medal round as one of the nine top individuals on a non-advancing team. He led the Gamecocks over the course of three days with a 54-hole total of 216 (E) and sits at T-18th heading into the final round of stroke play.

Golf Channel has live coverage from 6 to 10 p.m. (ET) of the final round of stroke play tomorrow as an individual NCAA Champion will be crowned and the top-eight teams will advance to match play.

A top-15 finish by Franks tomorrow will grant him an individual trophy and NCAA All-America status. Clippd will have live scoring here. Tee times for individuals will be determined in the morning after Georgia Tech and Wake Forest playoff for the final spot in the top-15. Franks will be in the first or second wave of individuals off between at either 3:31 p.m. or 3:42 p.m. (ET) from hole 10.

The Roebuck, S.C. native currently sits just two shots back of the top-10. If he finishes top-10 tomorrow, Franks would be the first Gamecock to record a top-10 finish at the NCAA Championship since All-American Fred Wadsworth in 1984.

Sophomore Brock Blais led the Gamecocks in round three with a 1-under 71 that featured five birdies. Franks and redshirt junior Frankie Harris each shot 73 (+1) in round three today. True freshman Marek Fleming was the final counting score with a 78 (+6). Fleming, who started the tournament as the sixth-man substitute, was inserted into the lineup for round two on Saturday and shot 72 (E) in his NCAA Championship debut with a team-high five birdies. Junior Zach Adams also shot 72 (E) in round two as he helped the team climb up the leaderboard nine spots to be in position for a run at the top-15 today.

It was a successful first season under first-year head coach Rob Bradley as he helped lead the team back to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2019. Carolina finished in the top-five in nine of the team’s 12 tournaments and ascended as high as No. 13 in the Clippd Team Rankings.
