Gamecock Men Secure Six Points in Opening Day of NCAA Championship
EUGENE, Ore. (June 11, 2025) – The NCAA Outdoor Championship officially commenced on Wednesday, and the Gamecock men kicked things off with a pair of scorers in the men’s shot put.
CJ Licata and Dylan Targgart combined for six points, each individually earning First Team All-American honors. Licata placed fifth overall as he threw 20.15m (66-1.5) for his first Outdoor First Team All-American honor of his collegiate career. Targgart placed seventh in the standings after throwing 19.48m (63-11), scoring for the second consecutive year. Targgart earns his second consecutive Outdoor First Team All-American nod with his seventh place finish. Additionally, Targgart ends his collegiate career having earned four consecutive First Team All-American honors dating back to the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championship. The duo also marks the first time in program history that the Gamecock men have a pair of scorers in the shot put at the same NCAA Outdoor Championship. They accomplished the feat for the first time in program history at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championship as well.
Channing Ferguson competed in the long jump on the opening day but was unable to put down a mark.
