
Edwards to USA Basketball AmeriCup Trials
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s basketball sophomore Joyce Edwards is among 21 athletes who will open 2025 USA Basketball Women’s AmeriCup Team trials today at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Edwards is one of five athletes at the trials who have previously helped the U.S. to at least two gold medals after she was part of the 2024 FIBA U18 AmeriCup team and the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup gold medal teams. Edwards was named MVP of the U18 AmeriCup with 14.2 points – fourth among all players in the tournament – 7.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. In 2023, she was part of the U19 World Cup’s All-Star Five after adding 12.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 18.5 minutes per game
In her first college season, Edwards earned All-America honorable mention and All-SEC First-Team honors as her team-high 12.7 points per game helped South Carolina get back to the National Championship game while adding a fourth-straight SEC Regular-Season Championship and a third-straight SEC Tournament title. She led the team in scoring a team-best 16 games and netted double-digit points 27 times in her 39 games, including five 20-point outings.
Following the selection of the 2025 USA Women’s AmeriCup Team and a training camp in Colorado Springs, the United States will travel to Santiago, Chile, for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, set for June 28-July 6. The U.S. will open Group B with host nation Chile, followed by Colombia, Puerto Rico and Mexico. The winners of the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup will earn a berth to the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup, set to be held in Berlin next September.
