Women’s Hoops at Louisville for 2025 ACC/SEC Challenge
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s basketball will travel to Louisville in December as part of the 2025 ACC/SEC Challenge, ESPN announced today. The two national powers will square off on Thu., Dec. 4, with the game airing on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ACC Network or SEC Network.
This marks the third season of The Challenge with the Gamecocks topping North Carolina in Chapel Hill in the 2023-24 inaugural season and defeating Duke last season in Colonial Life Arena. The 2024 Challenge went to the SEC 10-6 after the leagues tied 7-7 in the first season.
South Carolina and Louisville have a lengthy history but have met just twice in recent years with both tied to a Gamecock National Championship. South Carolina is 18-4 all-time against the Cardinals, including a 2-0 mark in the Dawn Staley era. The Gamecocks won 83-59 in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Challenge on Nov. 27, 2016, before going on to win their first NCAA National Championship. In 2022, the connection was more direct with South Carolina defeating Louisville 72-59 in the Final Four on April 1 in Minneapolis, where they went on to win their second National Championship.
The Gamecocks are coming off their fifth-straight NCAA Final Four appearance, including their third-straight appearance in the title game. Head Coach Dawn Staley returns two of last season’s four All-Americans in forwards Joyce Edwards and Chloe Kitts along with SEC All-Defense Team guard Raven Johnson. The Gamecocks added a pair of incoming transfers in three-time All-American guard Ta’Niya Latson and 6-foot-6 center Madina Okot and two incoming freshman in McDonald’s All-Americans Ayla McDowell and Agot Makeer.
